Title: Senior Product Designer
tl;dr
I worked as Senior Product Designer for Nomisma, a startup providing blockchain token derivative trading capabilities for institutional investors. During my time I professionalized our design process by implementing workflows, software standards and a design system based on the Atomic Design methodology. I mostly worked on our retail investor trading platform, but also partnered with C-suite executives on projects like branding, promotional materials and presentations.

Trading Platform
One of the biggest challenges in designing Nomisma’s trading platform was achieving the required information density while keeping the UX/UI design pleasant and easy to use. To do this I opted to use a condensed font - Noto Sans - and work with a collapsible vertical navigation drawer, saving precious screen real estate. Another reason why we choose Noto Sans, was that it allowed us to quickly implement logographic writing systems like Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
As we were planning to implement a dark version of the UI at some point, the initial designs were deliberately kept minimal, using color only to convey semantics or differentiate between blockchain tokens.
Data Visualization
Derivative products are by their nature complex financial instruments. Used only by institutional investors to hedge risks and r/WallStreetBets to go to the moon. This complexity is reflected in the challenge of designing data visualizations used to articulate financial results of a derivative product and to accurately reflect current, historical and projected results.
For data visualizations that were used to explain a product, I used simple line charts, showcasing an FX trend line against a product result line. Since the goal of these type of visualizations is to showcase the x-y relationship of a derivative product, there was no need to use data points to reflect specific results.
For data visualizations that were created to reflect performance, I used the following visualizations:
Proportions: Pie Chart (investment fund utilization), Tree-map (portfolio composition) and Bar (order book depth).
Distributions: Histogram (order book distribution).
Uncertainty: Confidence Band (order book spread).
I also created a 3d chart for an innovative investment product visualizing the x-y-z relationship between product results, FX rates and interest rates.
